Upon meeting your friendly local guide, we’ll head out of the historical centre of Irkutsk onto the Baikal motorway by public minibus or by car. The journey to our first stop will take about an hour, which is a perfect amount of time for your guide to introduce you to the area and its people.

Stop At: Taltsy Museum, Baykalsky highway 47km, Taltsy 664518 Russia
Our first stop is Taltsy, a wonderful open-air museum dedicated to the wooden architecture of old Siberia. We’ll explore the lives of local people and their house arrangements, from the Buryats and Evenks to the Tofalars and the Russians. We’ll check out the wooden church of Kazan, built in 1679, and check out a traditional wooden fortress. It’s interesting to find out what’s inside many of these Siberian ostrogs, as many of them went on to form the framework of the cities we know today.

After having a tasty snack in Taltsy, we’ll head towards the world’s deepest freshwater lake. It’s not a secret that Baikal is a sacred place and you will have the opportunity to feel the rejuvenating water on your skin. We’ll arrive in the lake’s most popular village, Listviyanka, and head straight to Dendro Park’s observation point for spellbinding views.

This is tucked away little place on the shores of Lake Baikal. The outside is filled with old cars from the Soviet era but inside is the most breathtaking art painted by the owner and renowned Russian artist Vladimir Osipov. It’s a great opportinuty to imerge yourself into Russian Culture.

Our adventure continues with a stroll along the shore as your guide tells you about some of the legends of the lake. Picnic time is next! We’ll buy some fish and maybe one or two other local treats and, weather permitting, set ourselves up at our favourite picnic spot along the lakeside (if the weather s bad, we’ll head into a cute little café instead).

After a delicious, local meal, we will head back to the city via public transport or by car (the journey will be about 1 hour 30 mins), arriving at the central bus station and heading to the city centre to start our walking tour.

We start our walking tour in the heart of Irkutsk at the crossroads of Karl Marx and Lenin street, the main hub of eastern Siberia, where you’ll have the opportunity to walk along Karl Marx street, one of the most important streets in the city. Each building has its own history that goes back more then a century, which you’ll learn about as we walk.

It’s time to have a snack on the way! Try some local dumplings with different fillings (meat, cheese or potatoes) and get to know more about Russian and Siberian cuisine.

After having a snack we’ll stop at a local bar for trying moonshine (Russian traditional drink). You’ll have the opportunity to learn some interesting facts about Irkutsk city and Baikal Lake.

Stop At: Triumphal Arch Moscow Gates, Moskovsko-Laninskaya St., Irkutsk Russia
Moving off Karl Marx Street towards the embankment of the Angara river you’ll have the opportunity to see historic wooden houses and then get to the Triumphal Arch Moscow Gates the place where people used to enter the city in old days.

Stop At: Church of the Savior of the Holy Face, Suhe-Batora ul., d. 2, Irkutsk 664011 Russia
The end of our tour will lead us right to the place where the city started, a square with three churches ( Church of the Saviour of the Holy Face, Cathedral of the Epiphany, Roman Catholic Church), one of which is the oldest stone structure in the city.
