About this activity
Meet your professional guide at 10:00am for your private full day of sightseeing.
First you will visit Bebek, the pearl of Istanbul which is located between Arnavutkoy and Rumeli fortress. It is famous for its mansions and small forests. It is a beautiful coastal village on the Bosphorus, very frequented by the high-end locals.
Next you will explore Arnavutkoy is a historic neighbourhood in Istanbul, famous for its wooden Ottoman mansions and seafood restaurants, as well as the campus of the prestigious Robert College with its centennial buildings. Arnavutköy was historically famous for its Ottoman strawberry, a less juicy and smaller kind than the usual strawberries found throughout Turkey. The sidewalk by the sea is always full of individuals fishing, while small fishing boats frequently pass by Arnavutköy's coastline on the Bosphorus. The fresh fish that is caught is sometimes sold to the seafood restaurants in the area.
Ortakoy is a neighborhood, formerly a small village, within the Besiktas district of Istanbul, located in the middle of the European bank of the Bosphorus. Ortakoy is a cosmopolitan area, with communities of Turks, Greeks, Armenians and Jews. The neighborhood hosts many different religious structures. It is also a popular spot for locals with its art galleries, nightclubs, cafés, bars, and restaurants. The Neo-Baroque style Ortaköy Mosque is a beautifully ornate structure, right on the jetty of Ortakoy, bordering the waters of the Bosphorus, and thus highly visible from the passing boats.
Lunch is recommended at The House Cafe on the Bosphorus.
After your lunch you will discover Nisantasi is Istanbul’s trendiest shopping district, as well as the birthplace of the Nobel Prize-winning author Orhan Pamuk. Istanbul’s fashion set flocks to the international names on the street, including Prada, Cartier and Louis Vuitton. In recent years, many high-end local designers have set up shop in alleys off the main street — perfect destinations for shoppers looking for real local treasures.
Last you will walk down the winding streets of Karakoy, where a lot of design offices and shops are hidden and you will come upon one of the most important new neighborhoods in Istanbul. Karakoy is a dynamic neighborhood to say the least. What used to be the main port of the Ottoman Empire and a site for local hardware stores is transforming slowly but surely into a hub of food, culture, and shopping. With the opening of shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries, and boutique hotels, the feel of the area is rapidly changing from a historical one to a modern and young neighborhood.
At the end of your experience, you will be transferred back to your hotel/ship.
