About this activity
Your Pushkar sightseeing tour begins with a pickup at your hotel in Jaipur at 08:00 AM. From here, you will proceed for 2-3 hrs drive to Pushkar. Upon reaching Pushkar, your sightseeing tour begins. Your first destination will be the Brahma Temple dedicated to Lord Brahma (creator of the world). As per Hindu legends, this temple was formed when the lotus in the hands of Lord Brahma fell onto the earth while he was searching for a place to perform a Yajna (self-mortification). Located on the banks of the Pushkar Lake, this temple has a life-sized idol of Lord Brahma with four hands and four faces sitting in a cross-legged position. This temple is swarmed with huge flocks of tourists on the occasion of Kartika Purnima (the full moon night of the Hindu lunar month of October – November).
Next, you will proceed to Pushkar Lake dating back to 4th century. It is a sacred lake whose water is said to have healing and medicinal properties. This is why, all the devotees who visit Pushkar, especially around Kartik Purnima festival, never leave without taking a holy dip into this river. Also called “king of pilgrimage sites, this river is fringed with various ghats (that are considered “Monuments of National Importance) and around 500 temples dotted on its banks.
This tour then takes you to a local bazaar in Pushkar that offers a wide variety of leather goods likes shoes, bags etc., tie & dye clothing with beautiful mirror works, Rajasthani puppets, rose products like rose oil, gulkhand (sweet preserve of rose petals) etc., silver jewellery and vibrant craftworks.
After a delightful experience while shopping at Pushkar, you will head on to your way back to Jaipur. Enroute, you will visit Ajmer Sharif Dargah, one of the most sanctified shrines in India, where a huge number of devotees arrive to seek the divine blessings of the great saint - Moinuddin Chishti (foremost preacher of Sufism in India). After the morning prayers, the devotees at this Dargah are offered “tabarruk” (blessings) called Niaz - made of rice, saffron, nuts, sugar, ghee and dryfruits. It is said that saint Moinuddin Chishti, when he was around 114 years old, locked himself in a room and prayed for six days before leaving his mortal body. On this note, Ajmer Sharif hosts a 6-day festival to pay homage to his death anniversary. Also, this dargah has a Akbar Mosque, which is a token of gratitude by Emperor Akbar to the saint.
Upon reaching Jaipur, you will be dropped-off at your hotel.
