About this activity
This half-day experience departs from Jasper twice daily. On board the comfortable, air conditioned minibus, you will explore a section of Jasper National Park, known for its abundant wildlife and breathtaking scenery. Your naturalist guide will highlight the unique features of the valley while you keep watch for bear, moose, elk, wolves, big horn sheep, eagles and even the odd marmot!
A stop at Maligne Canyon features a short walk around the upper reaches, offering spectacular views of waterfalls and hidden fossils, viewed from the footbridges spanning the deepest sections of the gorge. This leisurely walk allows plenty of time for photos and nature interpretation.
Continuing up the Valley, you arrive at the 'disappearing' Medicine Lake, with the amazing geology that has created the Karst Topographical phenomenon, causing the lake to completely drain every year.
The final destination and the highlight of the tour is the world famous Maligne Lake, which features a 90-minute cruise to Spirit Island, a true icon of the Canadian Rockies! Prior to departing back down the valley, you will have a little free time, to browse the gift shop or purchase lunch or snacks at the View Restaurant, which offers a wide array of homemade soups, stews, chilli, sandwiches, salads and a variety of baked goods and beverages.
This tour travels through prime wildlife habitat, giving you excellent viewing opportunities. Wildlife encounters are frequent, however, everyday is unique in Jasper National Park. This is a natural environment and wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Tour includes complimentary pick up and drop off from Jasper Hotels.

Having a guide like Ross, a wildlife photographer, made this an unforgettable adventure. We saw Elk, big horn sheep and mule deer as well as countless sights we will never forget. The cruise of Maligne Lake and tour of Spirit Island were the highlight of our trip to he Canadian Rockies. Carlos was our guide and his extensive knowledge and sense of humor made this aspect very special. I recommend this tour without reservation and hope others have the opportunity to experience this part of Canada from this special perspective.
Maligned Lake and Spirit Island were on my looking forward to see list. They were great. Thanks so much. I also loved going to Maligne Canyon.
This was a wonderful day out and thoroughly enjoyed the cruise on Maligne Lake. Our driver was great and kept us well informed all through the trip and made every effort to find wildlife for us which included elk and moose but sadly no bears. Would definitely recommend this tour
The tour guide, Ross, was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He pointed out some interesting features of the waterfall that we would have missed if we had gone there on our own. He went out of his way to make the trip special, for example, showing us Lake Maxwell when it was absolutely calm and we could take a photo of the mountains mirrored in its water. Such calmness was unusual for the time of day we were there. We even saw some elk.
Very informative tour guide. The boat ride on the lake was OK but not great, I'd suggest continuing with the nature walk if you are ok with walking 3.2 KM
everything went smoothly. Although the experience was dampened by rain I felt the trip was worthwhile, interesting and scenic
Our guide Ross was very knowledgeable and the boat trip out to Spirit Island was breathtaking!
