About this activity
Drive towards Jo’burg city, we make a stop at Mueller stadium; from there we have a perfect bird’s eye view of the skylines and the fascinating story of how and when Jo’burg started in 1886 with a brief history up to the present day.
We proceed for our lunch at Oriental Plaza, an Indian shopping complex; this is an opportunity to witness our Indian counterparts and to sample their cuisine.
Visit the city centre to get the feel of the city and view important historical buildings such our Diamond Building,National Library, Corner House, Anglo-American,Chamber of Mines etc.
We also visit the newly established Maboneng/Arts on Main Precinct www.maboneng.co.za hier we enjoy our lunch under olive trees
Proceed towards Soweto the biggest township in Africa housing ca. 4 million people.
Arrive in Soweto and drive through Diepkloof Extension the rich suburb that houses some of our millionaires. View the men’s hostel built during the times of the mining industry in Gauteng for the men working in the mines in this area.
Continue to Baragwanath Hospital and stopover for the view over Soweto.
Drive past the Orlando power station built to supply Johannesburg with electricity and not Soweto. Short stopover at Vista University. Stopover at Fred Clark ex Salvation Army training college and my first home in Soweto.
Depart from Soweto back to the northern suburbs.
