We leave Athens early for our full-day journey to Greece’s most renown wine region, Nemea, with roots to antiquity. On our way to the Peloponnese, we will be traversing the hilly landscape, full of vineyards, a real feast for the eyes.

Nemea is deemed “the crown jewel” of the wine industry. Situated in the Peloponnese, it first became known from the feat of Hercules and the extermination of the lion that terrorized the locals. During the Byzantine period it was called “Agios Georgios” (Saint George) from the homonymous Byzantine church from which the well-known Agiorgitiko grape variety was named after. Rich in aroma and red color, the Agiorgitiko has been the trademark of the area for 2.500 years. We will visit 2 wineries on our journey. Please note: the precise wineries may vary and the below names are not guaranteed.

Our first stop is at a modern, winemaking facility which produces both magnificent and unique wines. We see the state-of-the-art machinery and hear the philosophy behind this leading contemporary wine industry in Greece. We sample a selection of award winning wines offered with an assortment of cheeses.

We continue our wine experience at a family-run business, handed down from one generation to the next. Employing natural vinification methods, this winery produces additive-free white and red wines. They aim to “create wines with unaltered character of the place, wines that express its authenticity”.

After the tour of the facilities and winetasting, we enjoy a tasty traditional lunch at a nearby restaurant. After lunch, we continue to the Ancient ruins in Nemea.

After lunch, we visit the Ancient ruins in Nemea. We have a brief tour of the archaeological site and learn about its important place in Greek history.

Stop At: Nauplion Promenade, Nafplio Greece

Get a behind-the-scenes taste of Greek culinary treats and traditions in the seaside town of Nafplion. See the historic sites, including Palamidi and Bourtzi fortresses, and walk the picturesque cobblestone streets. Learn about traditional dishes and sample local cuisine at a favorite restaurant and taste sweets.
