Itinerary
Day 1: Athens
Stop At: Temple of Aphaia, Egina 180 10, Greece
Aegina
The Saronic island of Aegina will be your first port of call. Just 27 km from Athens, this stony but fertile island produces verdant crops, including grain, vines, almonds and figs, but it is most well-known for its pistachios. You’ll find that the local cuisine fully takes advantage of this product. Be sure to try some of the specialties such as green pistachio ice cream, a local and visitor favorite. If you’re in the mood for sightseeing, then visit the Temple of Aphaea located on a pine-clad hill overlooking the sea in the northeast part of the island. If you’re in a sportier mood, then the eastern part of the island is ideal for swimming or water sports in blue waters.
Duration: 5 hours
Meals included:
• Lunch: Lunch is included with soft drinks.
• Breakfast: Breakfast and any special preferences you wish you can ask it in advance.
Accommodation included: Overnight on a Sailing Catamaran.
Day 2: (Monday) Hydra
Stop At: Harriets Hydra Horses, Hydra Town 18040 Greece
From Aegina you’ll sail to the romantic island of Hydra. Referencing the island’s natural springs, in the ancient days Hydra was known as “Hydrea,” a term derived from the Greek word for “water.” A total ban on cars has bestowed the island with a very special character; it’s a joy to take a walk around its winding cobblestoned streets and view its traditional stone mansions and secluded, shady squares surrounding the picturesque main town. Or, you could hire one of the 500 local donkeys to ride, since they are the island’s only mode of public transport – and an excellent photo opportunity.
Duration: 5 hours
Meals included:
• Breakfast
• Lunch
Accommodation included: Overnight on a Sailing Catamaran
Day 3: (Tuesday) Spetses
Stop At: Spetses Museum, Chatzigianni, 180 50 Greece
Coming up next on the horizon will be the picturesque island of Spetses. Having been able to maintain its traditional character, Spetses is ideal for strolling around – private cars aren’t allowed in the downtown area of town – or taking in the grand neoclassical mansions surrounding the picturesque old harbor, which bare excellent witness to the island’s highbrow past.
Duration: 4 hours
Meals included:
• Breakfast
• Lunch
Accommodation included: Overnight on a Sailing Catamaran
Day 4: (Wednesday) Poros
Stop At: Poros Port, 18020 Greece
From Spetses you’ll travel on to Poros. Consisting of two islands, the northern Kalavria and the southern Sphairia, lush pine trees and crystal-clear beaches characterize it just as much as its neoclassical waterfront, filled with grand traditional mansions, cobblestoned streets, tempting shops and cozy restaurants
Duration: 3 hours
Meals included:
• Breakfast
• Dinner
Accommodation included: Overnight on a Sailing Catamaran
Day 5: (Thursday) Epidaurus
Stop At: The Great Theatre of Epidaurus, Ethniki Odos Isthmou Archaias Epidavrou, Epidavros 210 52 Greece
You’ll feel as if you’ve travelled back in time when you approach the hillside ancient theater of Epidaurus. Built out of limestone in the 3rd century B.C. it is not only the most well preserved but also the most famous of all the ancient theaters in Greece. Every summer, it comes alive again when ancient dramas and comedies are performed for its 12,000 spectators. Be sure to plan an evening of it!
Duration: 4 hours
Meals included:
• Breakfast
• Lunch
Accommodation included: Overnight on a Sailing Catamaran
Day 6: (Friday) Kalamaki
Stop At: Parthenon, Acropolis Top of Dionyssiou Areopagitou, Athens 105 58 Greece
The pine forests along the coast of Kalamaki will welcome you as you near the shore. This green oasis overlooking the Saronic gulf is now a popular coastal holiday resort but was once an important ancient harbor. Situated to the east of the Isthmus of Corinth, the ancient port of Kechries, as it was called, served the important eastern trade routes. Today, you can admire the ancient ruins or swim in the clear blue waters (but not at the ancient site). Enjoy a perfect day of relaxation under the Aegean sun.
Kalamaki -> Athens
Sail along the coastline as you make your way back to Athens. Enjoy a leisurely day of swimming and sunbathing. Return to the port by 18:00 p.m.
