About this activity
From one awe inspiring site to the next is how your morning unfolds before an afternoon exploring one of the most beautiful of Athens old suburbs in this private tour exclusive to your group alone. From pick up at your hotel or the easy meeting point, we head strait to the nearby Acropolis entrance passing the magnificent Roman theater & the ancient theater of Dionysus which witnessed premiers of some of the most famous writers of the golden age. Ascending the stone steps we reach the pinnacle of Greek antiquity, the Parthenon and various temples on the Acropolis while hearing about its turbulent history and the mythological struggles of the gods. After plenty of time to take photos and contemplate this amazing site we descend through the olive trees to find the wide and pretty pedestrianized street of Dionysiou.
Passing the picturesque Neoclassic houses we soon arrive at the Temple of Zeus and Hadrian’s arch with an insight into the important Roman occupation of the city before visiting the Olympic stadium. Continuing to the former Royal Palace and National Gardens we explore this green oasis. Emerging at the central Syntagma Square we stop to see the Greek Parliament building and the ceremony of changing of the National guard in their impressive costume & head through Athens most famous shopping area, the colorful and bustling Ermou street and the ‘Plaka’ market to the site of the Temple of Hephaestus and the ‘ancient agora’ which was the market place of the ancient Athenians. As you walk in their very footsteps, you'll learn how the ancient Greeks would have gathered to trade, exchange news, worship & carry out the street politics of the day.
After lunch we drive for around 30 minutes to the center of the Kifissia district located north of Athens for a tour of the main area along with the many off the beaten track gems, from 'Varsos' a 'temple of traditional Greek desserts', one of the oldest shops for sweets, patisseries and coffee in Greece - and largely unchanged – to the pretty church of Panagistas offering a quiet place of hidden meditation just off the busy main street, to the charming old central park before your return. With plenty of time for photos, rest stops when appropriate, and consideration for all the needs of small philosophers & big sightseers alike in each group, we aim to return you to your hotel having had one of the most memorable experiences of your visit!
A private tour exclusive to your group allowing flexibility, our English speaking driver/guide will take full and special care of you during you trip and provide all the historical, mythological, ancient & modern context along the way to help you make the most of the sites you will visit. Our driver/guide is not allowed by law to accompany you into ticketed sites themselves. We collaborate with guides licensed to enter sites & can provide these if necessary.

Konstantinos was a great guide around the city! And very flexible and patient--he genuinely enjoys helping visitors know and appreciate Athens. The tour does not include the cost of visiting the Acropolis and other sites 10 euros for the acropolis and 30 for all sites and does not include a tour guide inside the Acropolis. Only tour guides licensed for the Acropolis are allowed inside and are available for hire at the entrance. They're pricey--about 120 euros although it's negotiable! for a guide, but this can be split with other folks. Overall, we would highly recommend this tour, especially if you are short on time as it makes it possible to see the main sites in Athens in one day with a private guide.
