We have just come back from this trip and would recommend our driver Mohammed who was excellent. The roads and traffic conditions are very difficult and he remained calm and safe throughout. Our first stop was to wash and feed elephants - this was the highlight for me - you get right up close and it was just us and the guide - not a large group. A trip to a herb and spice garden followed which was interesting but we felt pressured to buy products which were vastly overpriced. The botanical gardens next which were lovely and would have been happy to spend longer there. Then on to Kandy and the Temple of Scared tooth. Unfortunately an un official guide decided to show us round and although some of what we learnt was interesting I would have preferred to have wandered round the temple in our own time by ourselves. Of course we had to part with more money as well even though we hadn't requested his company. A varied but tiring day. The second day we drove for 2 hours to get to Nuwara Eliya (Little England) - although pretty there is nothing to see there really and the journey was up very windy roads though tea plantations. The visit to the tea plantation was good But then we faced a 5 hour drive back to Colombo - it felt like we spent most of the day in the car.
