Day 2: Fly to Lukla(9,350 ft) and trek to Phakding (Elev: 2652 m / 8698 ft, Distance: 7.5 km)
Pass By: Lukla Airport Viewpoint, 56000, चौरीखर्क 56000, Nepal
We will take Kathmandu to Lukla early morning flight. Depending on the exact flight time, we should be ready to leave the hotel anytime between 5- 6:00 AM to get to the airport. Lukla is home to a small airport that acts as the gateway to Everest for most visitors and is aptly named the Tenzing-Hillary airport. The airport is serviced by regional carriers to ferry climbers and hikers from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. It is eminently possible to take a jeep to Phaplu and from there hike to Lukla. Flying in, however is the most common option for international visitors on account of time constraints. Our local team of Sherpas and porters would join us at Lukla village. We set out on our trek. Our destination for the day is Phakding, a small village about 5 kms north of Lukla. The Dudh Kosi river coming down from the Mount Everest massif would welcome us shortly into our trek, a more symbolic gesture could seldom be found from nature. On this day we take things easy and settle down in Phakding after walking for about 2-3 hours. Phakding thrives on tourism and abounds in traveler lodges and we would stay our night in one of them.
