Stop At: Boudhanath Stupa, Boudh Boudha, Kathmandu 44600 Nepal
The Boudhnath Stupa, one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Nepal is surrounded by a 16-sided wall adorned with frescoes in the niches. It is an alluring spot cladded with Tibetan Buddhist monks & nuns walking around the Stupa and chanting 'Om Mani Padme Hum' as it is believed that circling around the Stupa offers freedom from all sins. The Stupa appears like a giant diagram of the Buddhist cosmos and has four Dhyani Buddhas depicting the cardinal points, with Vairocana (the fifth cardinal point) enshrined in the center. The five Buddhas also personify the five elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether). The nine levels of Boudhanath Stupa represents the Mt. Meru, center of the cosmos; and the 13 rings from the base to the pinnacle symbolize the path to enlightenment, or "Bodhi" — hence, the Stupa's name. This surreal place is a visual treat to eyes as it is ingrained with marvelous architecture and you can checkout traditional items in its courtyard “Tamang Gompa” as well. Visiting this Stupa is a spiritual experience, worth a visit once in a lifetime! After your visit to Boudhnath Stupa, your tour comes to an end. Later, you will be dropped off at the hotel. Rest of the day at leisure.
