Stop At: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Kathmandu 44600 Nepal
Kathmandu has three Durbar squares and one of them is Kathmandu Durbar Square. It is undoubtedly the most spectacular legacy of Kathmandu’s traditional architecture and is counted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. This square’s stunning architecture is inspired from Newari style of architecture and is constructed in the shape of a multi-tiered Pagoda. It consists of many old palaces, ancient temples and pavilions that offer a mystical feeling. While you wander through this architectural marvel, don’t miss out on its major attraction called the “Kumari Chowk”, which is abode of the living goddess ‘Raj Kumari’ - human reincarnation of Holy Deity Durga. In the ancient era, the Kathmandu Durbar Square was the place where the Kings were crowned and from where they ruled the city. This is why; it is considered to be the traditional heart of Kathmandu.
