About this activity
Your day starts with a pick up from the hotel / Railway Station. Proceed for Muziris - the ancient port city that traded spices, silk, and precious stones to Greece, Egypt, Rome, etc. Owing to these trading contracts, the city has become a melting pot of various cultures. The private tour around the city introduces you to the history of this beautiful city situated on the Malabar Coast.
Start your Muziris sightseeing tour with a visit to the Old synagogue, the worshiping place of the Malabar Jews of Chennanmangalam and Paravoor. Built in Keralan style, the synagogue was constructed to adapt to the ritual and liturgical requirements of the Jewish who landed on the Malabar Coast during the ancient times. Then, rest your eyes on the Palace Paliam Kovilakam, a perfect infusion of the Dutch and Kerala architectural styles. The Palace served as the residence of Paliath Achans, the prime ministers of the Rajas of the State of Kochi. Thereafter, head towards the Cheraman Juma Masjid- the first mosque in India, made in honor of Kerala’s Chera King Cheraman Perumal. Walk through a nearby local bazaar and find some colorful items on display.
In the afternoon, enjoy a vegetarian lunch at a local restaurant on your way to the Kodungalloor Bhagavathi Temple, a Hindu temple made dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali. Steeped in legends and myths, the temple attracts many pilgrims and locals for daily worship, festivals, and rituals. Then, your guide will take you to the Pattanam Museum, where recent archaeological excavations found evidence of early Roman trade with India. The Kottakavu Church of the Syrian Christian community of Kerala is the final point of interest of your guided city tour. The Church is believed to be one of the seven original ones established by the Apostle St. Thomas.
As your tour ends, you will be driven back to your Hotel / Railway Station.
