About this activity
Take the Royal Route - the highlight of the Old Town, which begins at St. Florian's Church in the northern part of the Medieval Old Town, continues along Floriańska, Grodzka, and Kanonicza Streets, and ends at Wawel Castle – the old residence of Polish monarchs, which was built in the 14th century. With a number of prominent historic landmarks on its way, The Royal Route is a true reminder of the golden age in Krakow's history.
See Wawel Hill; a 50m-high rock on the edge of the old town located on the bank of the Vistula River. On the top of the hill you’ll see the most important monument of Poland – Wawel Castle. The building is a mixture of Medieval, Romanesque, Renaissance, and Baroque style. Up until the 17th century the castle was the seat of the Polish Monarchy. One of the most important parts of the historical structure is the Cathedral, which is full of chapels, tombs and sarcophagi. While visiting Wawel Hill do not forget to enter the Royal Chambers and the Armoury. The cord in front of the Cathedral offers a beautiful view of the Sigismund Chapel with its gold covered roof.
Next it's St. Mary’s Basilica in Rynek Główny: The basilica was built in the 13th century in place of the previous one, which was destroyed during one of the Tartar invasions. Inside, you will find works of the most prominent artists in this region of Europe. The magnificent altarpiece by Veit Stoss and the polychrome paintings by Matejko, Mehoffer, and Wyspiański are only some of them.
St Peter and Paul’s Church on Grodzka Street 54 - The most important Jesuit church in the city. Although it was built in the first decades of the 17th century, it was rebuilt a few times and its current appearance is very different from the original one.
The Cloth Hall and the Underground Museum - This 14th century building was rebuilt after the conflagration in 1555 and serves as a splendid edifice of the renaissance. Some structures, such as the arcades or the central transepts, were added on in the late 1800s.
There will be also time on the tour for 1/2 hour coffee break (own expense) to discuss the social and economical situation of Poland, as well as funny stories, legends, customs and traditions.

Fantastic tour of the old town. Alex was an excellent tour guide very informative and extremely knowledgeable. Thanks Alex we had a great time.
The guide was both entertaining and informative. She explained many things about the history and environment I would have missed otherwise. She also had great suggestions for later activities. My enjoyment of the city was greatly enhanced.
This was my second visit to Krakow. I had little more time to spend in the city this time so booked this walking tour..and it was worth it. Our guide knew history of the city, of all the places we visited, very well and he sure made it interesting!! We had sufficient time in each place to view, observe and click photos. The walk was comfortable for group members of all ages.. and finally walking in the rains of Krakow was fun! (because it lasted for only 10 minutes out of the 3 hour tour)
An excellent 3+ hours with Max, our very knowledgeable guide. We covered a great deal of the city but without seeming to rush. A must tour for anyone visiting Krakow for the first time.
The Old Town Guided Walking Tour was excellent, the tour guide was very informative and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Would recommend it to anyone.
Although I had walked around the Old Town on my own the day before, the information provided by the tour guide the next day completed the experience.
This tour was the greatest. The reason was our guide - Jack - though his real name was probably three times longer and had no vowels. We met at the prescribed location in the main market square and set off at precisely 2pm. For the next three hours, we saw the wonderful sights of Krakow's old town while we took the graduate course relating to its history, geography, art and architecture from Jack, whose English was excellent and colourful. He wasn't just knowledgeable, he was passionate, and a natural story-teller. He had us hanging on every word. At precisely 5pm, we were back in the square - we had to be there at the top of the hour for this - where Jack delivered his piece de résistance - another bit of theatre that I won't reveal here. A bit of history that we'll remember, especially for the way in which it was conveyed by our entertaining guide. This review may sound a bit effusive, but no, I don't work for the tour company, and I'm not a relative of Jack! Just really enjoyed the tour and hope you do, too. Kevin Worth Victoria, BC Canada
