Kiyomizu-dera Temple, a venerated temple founded about 1,200 years ago, is perched on a hillside in the east of Kyoto. It is one of the most famous and popular temples in Kyoto. From the large veranda in front of the main hall which is designated a national treasure, you can command a panoramic view of Kyoto city. The entire structure is also known for having been built completely without the use of nails.
