Altun Ha Mayan Site

Located 30 miles north of Belize City, Altun Ha was one of the Mayas’ most important ceremonial and trading cities during the height of the Maya Civilization. This half day tour will have you walking through the two plazas of the central precinct whilst your guide describes the history and culture of the Mayas of the site. You will also have an opportunity to walk through a trail under the canopy of the tropical rainforest to view the pond that was dug out by the Mayas who lived in the city centuries ago. Finally, our guests get to go on top the tallest temple on the site, which was dedicated to the sun god Kinich Ahua. It was here that archaeologists found the largest perfectly carved jade monument in the entire Mayan World. A jade head that weighs 9.75 pounds and is about 6 inches in height. From on top this temple you get a picturesque birds-eye view of the entire excavated landscape of the temples of Altun Ha.
