Stop At: Torre de Belem, Avenida Brasilia - Belem, Lisbon 1400-038 Portugal
We start the tour with a short train trip along the river towards Belem. For centuries, Belem was the main port of Lisbon, the starting point of epic journeys. Today this neighborhood is known for its monuments and museums.
From the Afonso de Albuquerque Garden, our first stop, you can see the Belem Palace, the official residence of the President of the Portuguese Republic and the National Coach Museum. One of the most visited museums of Lisbon with a unique collection in the world, of magnificent carriages of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
We stop at the Antiga Confeitaria to taste the famous Pastéis de Belém, made since 1841 and whose recipe is kept safe with access to a limited a number of people.
We visit the beautiful Jerónimos Monastery of the 16th century, World Cultural Heritage, an authentic memorial to the Portuguese glories. Near the monastery is the Cultural Center of Belém, which houses the Berardo Collection Museum, the most important collection of modern and contemporary art in Lisbon.
Continuing our journey until the time of the Discoveries, we glimpse a monument in the shape of a caravel next to the Tagus River. Inaugurated in 1960, the Monument of Discoveries symbolizes some of the protagonists of the overseas conquers and culture of the time.
Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the Belem Tower, built to defend the entrance of the Tagus from enemy ships, served as the starting point for many of the voyages of the time of the Discoveries.
