About this activity
Take a full-day group tour from Lisbon to Peniche Berlengas Island
Admire the coastal scenery on a 30-minute ferry from Peniche to Berlengas
Spend the day exploring the nature reserve, beaches, and military fortress
Elected long time ago as the main location for diving with a hard hat in the Portuguese coast, the Berlenga waters hide everything the human imagination can create. The Berlenga Island is about 7 miles from the Peniche Port ; it is 1500 meters long and 800 meters wide, with a perimeter of 4000 meters and reaches 88 meters at its highest point and –30 meters at its lowest. It is a region of great interest for botanical specialists with several endemic species and species of limited distribution. A nesting spot for some species of ocean birds, and a passing point for several migratory species. A Maritime Reserve of great wild life richness, particularly ichthyology. The Berlenga Nature Reserve is a unique place due to its transparent sea and underwater treasures. It is a marine reserve and has been classified by the Council of Europe as a "Biosphere Reserve". The archipelago consists of a large island,Berlenga Grande, and some small granite islands and rocks, which are situated some 7 miles off the headland of Cabo Carvoeiro to the north-west of Peniche. The island of Berlenga Grande can be seen from the mainland when there is no sea mist. Here you will find endemic species of flora, as well as one of the preferred nesting sites for sea birds. Built on a rock adjacent to the Berlenga island and connected to it by a small bridge, there stands the Forte de São João Baptista, a Manueline military fortress built in 1502.The island’s tiny beaches with their clear blue sea are very beautiful and ideal for swimming and diving. Meet your guide in Lisbon's Restauradores Square and depart to Peniche in a climate-controlled vehicle, with WIFI and free water. Access to the island is by boat, with departures from Peniche harbor. It takes roughly 30 minutes to reach Berlenga Grande. For Lunch, there is also a restaurant on the island. You will have of activities to do in the Island as your choice, like kayak, caves visit or a ride on a glass boat and snorkling. After, travel back to Lisbon, where your tour concludes with drop-off at the starting point.
