About this activity
Sintra and Cascais are small villages just outside of Lisbon, and they’re the real “must-do” tour when visiting Lisbon. Located in a beautiful protected area, the Sintra Hills are the home of some of the most beautiful Palaces and Castles.
The most iconic among them is the Pena Palace, which you’ll visit early in the morning. It is considered the most beautiful Castle in Europe, and it’s a true pleasure to walk in its Park, or just admire the views from its balconies, with Lisbon in the horizon.
At the cosy Sintra Village, which looks just like a postcard town, you’ll have time to taste the local pastries, check some souvenirs or just enjoy the ambience there. Afterwards, you’ll head to the Roca Cape (Cabo da Roca), the westernmost piece of land in Europe, through the narrow roads in the hills, where not many people pass.
From Roca Cape, you’ll be heading to Lisbon always along the coast, enjoying amazing views over the ocean, first, and the Tagus River, arriving in Lisbon. In the way, there will be time to stop at Cascais, the once fishing village that turned into home of kings in exile, and one of the espionage centers during World War II. Cascais is now a pleasant beach town, where people walk the streets while enjoying the sun.

I highly recommend visiting Sintra and Cascais while in Lisbon. They offered a nice alternative to the hustle of Lisbon's city feel. The private tour was great and our guide was wonderful!
This was a great tour. Our guide was extremely fluent in English so we did not have any problem communicating and understanding. He even recommended us great pastries to buy in Sintra. The tour is well planned, giving you time to see the locations without any hurry.
We had a fantastic trip to Sintra/Cascais area. Our driver/guide Nuno Rebelo was fluent in English, very knowledgeable and definitely gave us a great day. We were able to drive up to the very top at Pena Palace and then back into Sintra to minimize the walking and crowds. Entrance to the Pena Palace was expidited which which was a plus. Nuno also was able to accommodate some areas we wished to see along the way. We all agreed it was a great day. Take this tour with Nuno!!!
We cannot imagine doing this on our own or with a large group. Our guide, David, was laid back and very knowledgeable. He made sure that we arrived at Pena Palace when it first opened. And he was right. By the time we left, it was very crowded, and the line snaked forever. After the castle, we spent time in the enormous gardens, then had lunch at a tiny restaurant that was superb. We would never have found this on our own. Then on to Cabo da Roca, the western-most point on the European continent, and finally a long stop in the lovely resort town of Cascais, where we had free time to explore on our own, before returning to Lisbon. This was a highlight of our 2-week trip to Portugal. Thank you, David!
Our time visiting Sintra and Cascais with Racquel was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire day and felt that we maximised our time by doing this private tour. Racquel was vibrant, passionate and informative during the entire tour. The Pena Palace is a must see attraction and one of the most beautiful palaces we visited and with ourstanding views to the Atlantic and Lisbon. Cascais was also fabulous to visit and explore. Racquel's passion and knowledge meant the day was filled with fascinating information on King Fernando ll and the political times which we found extremely interesting. The whole tour was easy with hotel pick up, drop off and clear communication pre the tour. Racquel recomended an outstanding seafood restaurant which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks for an amazing day Racquel.
