After our visit to the Cork factory, it is time to visit the Evora Historic Center, starting with the walls.

Evora is surrounded by defensive and military style walls, with Arab and Roman characteristics, Gothic and Visigoth.

They are considered a national monument since 1922.

In this place we can also appreciate the architecture of the various buildings and monuments of the city, painted with characteristic colors to withstand the temperatures of the region.

After the walls, we will walk towards the main square of the city.

The Giraldo square is named after "Geraldo Sem Pavor", a general responsible for the conquest of Evora to the Moors in 1167.
After this feat, the first king of Portugal, King Dom Afonso Henriques, appointed Geraldo to be responsible for Evora and the Alentejo region.

In this square there is a fountain with the characteristic of having 8 taps, corresponding to the 8 streets that end in the square Giraldo.

The square today is an important place where local people came for the most varied events and enjoy the days in the many coffee shops and restaurants that exist there.

Time to visit, one of the best known monuments of the city of Evora, the chapel of bones.

This chapel with unique features in Europe has the particularity that its interior is made with human bones from local cemeteries.

The chapel was built by Franciscan monks and aims to represent the passage from life to death, and in the end though we are all bones. An important lesson.

The chapel is inside a church that we will also visit.

Time to visit, one of the best known monuments of the city of Evora, the chapel of bones.

After this first phase of the visit to Evora it is time for a break to taste the local delights.

We will visit an important convent pastry that produces one of the typical sweets of Evora.

The “Pao de rala”, this Alentejo bread shaped candy is made with almond paste, egg yolks, egg candy, gila pumpkin and cinnamon inside.

There are other sweets in this store that are characteristic of the region.

With the energies recovered, we will walk through the quiet streets of Evora to discover unique corners in this city.

We will go to an important handicraft shop, known as "Aldeia da Terra", where artisans use clay to shape caricatures of the region and Portugal as well as important monuments and figures.

Stop At: Cathedral of Evora (Se Catedral de Evora), Largo do Marques de Marialva, Evora 7000-809 Portugal

Time to visit the highest point of the city, reaching one of the most important areas of the city where you can find several monuments that can be visited without entering.

It is an authentic open-air museum and a delight for history lovers.

In this area we have the Cathedral of Evora which is 470 years old and represents the transition from the Romanic to the gothic built all in granite and with three naves.

Welcome to the Roman temple of Evora, better known as the temple of Diana.

The name of this temple was associated with Diana, the goddess of hunting in a 17th century legend.

In fact this temple is one of the important landmarks of the Roman presence in Portugal and was built to honor the emperor Augustus who was revered as a god during and after his reign.

This temple was formerly a forum and is one of the most important landmarks of the city of Evora, being considered a national monument of Portugal and a UNESCO world heritage site.

Stop At: Monsaraz Castle and Walls, Largo do Castelo, Monsaraz 7200-175 Portugal

After lunch in a typical restaurant where we can taste the typical dishes and sweets of the region, it is time to travel to Monsaraz Castle which is located in the highest point of the region.
Surrounded by agricultural fields, Evora and the Alqueva dam, the largest lake. from Europe.

The visit to this castle has a very important historical component not only for its proximity to Spain but for the occupation of various peoples over time, such as the Romans, Visigoths and Muslims.

Today the castle is classified as a national monument of Portugal and one of the most important castles and with more history in Portugal, and inside we can remember the customs and traditions of old as well as practices such as bullfighting in the old square of the castle.

This activity is very present in both Portuguese and Spanish culture.
