Join your guide at a designated meeting point, and board Lisbon’s renowned Number 28 tram. Ride through the narrow streets of the old town and up hillsides for picturesque views of the Alfama district.

Hop off to explore some of the area’s distinctive spots on foot. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the famed Feira da Ladra flea market— the oldest flea market in the city— comes to life. Continue exploring the neighborhood, and discover landmarks such as Sé de Lisboa medieval cathedral, Mosteiro de São Vicente de Fora (St. Vincent Monastery), and Panteão Nacional (National Pantheon), and hear the story of the Pantheon’s legend.

Next, explore the traditional neighborhood of Alfama. Meander through its narrow streets, and climb its steep hills. Follow the paths to city squares, where you can take admire the area’s culture and history. You might even hear the melodies of Fado, traditional Portuguese music. We had a personal tour guide who led us through the historic district of Alfama which ironically was where we were staying. Unfortunately the tram ride that was included broke down so we missed that experience. Our tour guide shared insights into the past and current history of Lisbon which we appreciated. He also gave us a sense of what it is like to live in Lisbon currently. A definite must !
