About this activity
Head north from Lisbon on your full-day trip back to a bygone era, where small villages boast a relaxing pace and historic religious sites dot the landscape. Your first stop is Óbidos, a fortified village of whitewashed houses and narrow streets with a distinctly medieval atmosphere. Enjoy free time to wander around the cobblestone streets and alleyways lined with colorful houses and Gothic doorways. Relax at a café or sample the traditional Ginja liqueur at one of the numerous wine shops.

Next, head to Alcobaça to visit the famous Monastery of Santa Maria d'Alcobaça, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the biggest Gothic-style church in Portugal. Continue to Nazaré, a colorful and traditional fishing villages. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (if option selected), and then explore the streets of this popular Portuguese summer retreat.

Enjoy wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean and the pretty beaches. Hop back on your coach for the drive through the beautiful Portuguese agricultural countryside. You’ll soon arrive in Batalha, a cute town home to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Batalha Monastery's Chruch, which you’ll visit with your guide. See the intricate architecture and beautiful stained-glass windows of this Gothic masterpiece.

Continue to Fátima, once a sleepy rural village that became an important pilgrimage site in 1917 when three shepherd children reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary, also known as Our Lady of Fátima (Nossa Senhora de Fátima). Enjoy free time to visit the Sanctuary of Fátima, a basilica that honors the apparition and attracts millions of Catholic pilgrims every year who go to pay their respects to the shrine.

This tour was very interesting especially if you have limited time to explore this part of Portugal. I liked all the places we visited including Alcobaça. Our guide Louisa, explained very well in English, Portuguese and French. Worth visiting.

A little clunky but you do actually go to 5 locations in one day. It's a lot but it means that you basically only get an hour or so at each location.

An excellent way to spend a day. The tour covers a lot of ground but it was unhurried.

Let me first say that the towns visited on this tour are exceptional and well worth taking. The included meal we paid for was excellent. I have taken over twenty tours with Viator and their local providers have always been excellent. This tour was the exception. Our tour guide Isabel was terrible. I have been on many trips that were bi-lingual and I do not mind that. But, Isabel could barely be heard or understood. She spoke in a monotone and gave little in the way of directions or suggestions. When asked a question she would either not answer or be very rude in answering. On most other tours I have taken, the tour guide would make an effort to get brochures of the site and hand out one to each person. This could have easily been done in Fatima for instance. Even if she didn't get the brochures, she could have pointed out the information office which we discovered a half hour later. Instead she just took us to the main plaza and said she would meet us back at the bus in one hour. This is just one example at one of 5 towns on the tour. I have never written a bad review on a guide but I would not want others to have our same experience. It was as if she did not want to be doing the trip that day. One other concern was the driver of the bus could not figure out how to get the condensation off of the inside of the windshield. He spent most of the first six hours wiping the windshield with his hand while driving. This is a real safety issue. He seemed to figure it out on the trip back to Lisbon. I also do not feel that dropping us off four blocks from our hotel pick up point, in the rain, is a proper way to end the trip. I emailed the local tour director after the trip and she quickly responded. She had no excuse for the tour guide but did indicate that this was the first time that the driver had driven this bus and was not aware how to run the AC unit. This company was very good pre trip in regards to communication. It just all fell apart the day of the trip.

The tour was well arranged and efficiently covered 5 places: Óbidos, Alcobaça, Nazaré, Batalha and Fátima. It's a good choice if you only have a short stay in Lisbon.

Perfect experience, to visit all those cities, with different characteristics! The only thing that it wasn't so nice is that we was a very big group and that makes the think a little bid difficult.
