About this activity
Our guide/driver will pick you up at your hotel/address or other meeting point and then you’ll start the tour head South towards Évora, rossing the Tagus River over the 25 de Abril Bridge or the ‘Vasco da Gama’ bridge, where you will enjoy a panoramic overview of Lisbon’s city.
The visit will start with a stop in Évora, considered the Capital of Alto Alentejo and classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage site since 1986. The natural beauty of this region is accompanied by the monumental richness of this town-museum. Many ancient cultures passed through here, but it was the Romans who transformed Évora into an imperial town during the 2nd Century, leaving many signs of their stay of which the Roman temple, wrongly known as ‘Templo de Diana’, is the most impressive. According your interests you can visit San Francisco’s Church and the Bones Chapel, one of the most famous monuments of Évora. San Francisco’s church is a Gothic - Manueline church built between 1480 and 1510. It is linked to the events that marked the period of maritime expansion and is one of the most beautiful churches of Portugal.
Another place you can get to know will be Évora’s Roman Temple (or Roman Temple of Diana) that was classified as a National Monument by IGESPAR. It is one of the most famous landmarks of the city and a symbol of the Roman presence in Portuguese territory. You also have Évora’s Cathedral, a city highlight. It is the largest medieval cathedral in Portugal and was built between 1186 and the early years of the 13th century.
Then we’ll start exploring the surroundings of Évora. We’ll start with a stop at a typical village near Évora where you’ll visit a local vineyard and winery. Here you’ll enjoy a guided tour of the estate, where you can see the daily life of a winery and get to know more about local wine production. The visit will end with a wine tasting accompanied with local products such as cheese, sausage, olives and bread.
Next we will go to another nearby village, to get to know more about the cork, where you will also enjoy a guided tour to learn more about he process of extraction and handling of cork.
