About this activity
On the afternoon of your tour, meet your guide at your hotel in central Ljubljana, and then set off in an air-conditioned minivan for Predjama Castle, located around an hour away in the historical region of Inner Carniola. As you travel, hear how the castle sits 400 feet (123 meters) above ground on a cliff.
On arrival, choose to tour the fortress either with your guide or independently. Explore the chambers, linked by winding staircases, and marvel at the collection of historical artifacts, from antique armaments to old artworks and furnishings. Learn of the infamous rebel knight, Erazem of Predjama, who lived here in the 15th century, and hear about the tunnel of Erazem, the secret passage used when the castle was besieged.
After around an hour, continue to Postojna Cave, roughly 15 minutes away. Part of one of the Slovenian Karst region’s many cave systems, Postojna Cave is Slovenia’s most-visited tourist attraction and the largest cave in the country.
Board the mini-train and travel into the depths of the 13-mile network, and then, with one of the cave's guides, set off on foot to explore its eerie caverns. Admire the otherworldly stalactites, stalagmites and rock formations, and discover how the caves were created. Hear, too, how the cave is home to some 100 different animal species, including the blind salamanders, known as ‘human fish,’ that live in its underground rivers.
Following your 1.5-hour tour, head back above ground and travel back to Ljubljana, where your tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel.

This is a nice way to spend an afternoon from Ljubljana. Predjama castle is very unique (even if you have castle fatigue). There's a relatively quick audioguide to lead you around for a little less than an hour. Postonja cave tour is very well organized with a train in, then a walk inside. This is an amazing sight to see, highly recommended. Look out for the baby dragons! You are able to take non-flash pictures here, which may be appealing to some people as you can't at the UNESCO Skocjan Caves. (I didn't learn this on this tour, but the reason is too much light (even infrared) can encourage algae growth that would otherwise interfere with the cave environment). The cost of this tour is worth not having to rent a car and worry about parking yourself at each attraction.
Small group tour so it was easy to follow! Sanda was really nice and answered to any questions! The caves and predjama castle were beautiful! Definitely a must visit in slovenia!
Again Slovenia Explorer was terrific and these two sites are a must to see when visiting Ljubljana.
Well organized tour with good transportation, charming and knowledgeable guide. Highly recommended!

Great trip! and super tour guide. If the meeting point can be clear will be perfect!
Great tour and guide
This was a fantastic tour. The castle was amazing, built right into the rock wall of the mountain. The cave was truly incredible. First we took a train ride about a mile in and then the tour began. I've never been so deep underground before! The cave tour was good. Especially great, though, were our Viator guides. So enthusiastic, so happy to share all they knew, so happy in general. We had a fabulous day and I highly recommend this tour.
