Drive west passing Gunung Sari village , where locals make 'berugak' , a wooden gazebo with thatched roof. The gazebo is part of Lombok traditional house, a place for family gathering or visiting guestsThe ricefield landscaped road will take you to Karang Bayan village, home to Sasak, the largest ethnic group on Lombok.Although they are adherents of Islam, the Sasak recognize caste social divisions like Hindu, observe both Wetu Telu (“Three Times”) and Wetu Lima (“Five Times”), so named for the number of times per day that practitioners pray, five times being the usual Muslim practice. Ramble through the village's lanes and see up and close as women are weaving 'ketak' type of fern that naturally grows in the forest. They produce export quality handicraft of bags, baskets and plates. Visit the old traditional buildings of soil or plaited-bamboo wall and thatched roof.
