Stop At: Blackfriars Bridge, London England
Are you ready to discover some of London’s most haunted sites and ghastly stories? If you think you are brave enough, then this is the tour for you!
Guided by a kid-friendly ghostly guide, you will enjoy a delightfully thrilling, chilling, scary yet fun-filled tour as you make your way through evocative old alleyways and old, cobbled streets. Perhaps you will get that eerie feeling that you are being watched as you creep around the next corner, wondering who, or what might be lying in wait for you. These locations are genuinely said to be haunted, and so maybe, if you're lucky (or unlucky, depending on your point of view), you might just see a ghostly apparition yourself.
During this tour your kid-friendly guide will entertain you with some fascinating ghost stories that still persist and intrigue today after surviving centuries of London's dark and mysterious history. Your expert guide will show you some of London's most haunted sites, so this tour is not for the faint hearted.
The tour will start by walking through the alleys and courtyards of Blackfriars, named after the black-robed Dominican friars whose monastery stood on this site and whose religious intolerance so displeased God that he sent an earthquake down to shake the City of London into sense. We will pass a church whose bell mysteriously tolls of its own volition on the death of clergymen and the site of William Shakespeare’s other London theatre.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: St. Paul's Cathedral, St Paul's Churchyard, London EC4M 8AD England
The tour will then go past St. Paul's Cathedral, and given that it has been a burial site for the last three hundred years, it comes as no surprise to learn that it is believed to be haunted. Indeed, there is a ghost story which concerns the appearance of an elderly clergyman, accompanied by a high-pitched, tuneless whistling sound. He is said to haunt the All Souls' Chapel.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Old Bailey, London EC4M 7EH England
After that, you will move on to the Old Bailey, the central criminal court. Legend has it that it is haunted by a ghost which usually makes an appearance after the conclusion of particularly important and serious trials. Haunting tends to intensify when verdicts appear to be rather unjust, and it is thought that the ghost may have once been an innocent man sentenced to death here.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Smithfield Market, 225 London Central Markets, London EC1A 9LH England
You will then walk around the ancient area of Smithfield, now distinguished by the huge Smithfield Meat Market. This impressive wrought iron structure was completed in 1866 by architect Horace Jones (most famous for his iconic Tower Bridge). In Medieval times, this was a large open field that made the area ideal for executions, and this was London's principal venue where people were hung, drawn and quartered. No wonder this is one of the most haunted locations in London!
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Clerkenwell, London England
After walking through the backstreets of Clerkenwell, and learning about a supersticious musical genius with a phobia of ghosts, a headless duke who carries his head under his arm and some ghostly body snatchers the tour finishes at Farringdon underground station.
