About this activity

From Luang Prabang, begin with a 30-minute drive out of town to a starting point on the Nam Khan River. This winding river flows through Luang Prabang and into the countryside, and is one of the city’s natural highways into the surrounding Laotian wilderness.

Following a short safety briefing and lesson on paddling skills, you will depart on your own kayak along the river, which is surrounded by breathtaking scenery. After two hours of easy paddling, arrive at Tad Sae Waterfall, a series of towering cascades and clear pools of water. Cool off with a dip before enjoying a picnic lunch on the riverbank.

After lunch, hop back into the boat and continue paddling downstream. Brace yourself for a small series of rapids, which you will navigate just before the river widens and slows for the languid final stretch.

Please note: The trip requires an average level of fitness. You will be kayaking approximately 5 hours and the rapids are Grade I and Grade II.
