Day 2: Mandalay

Mandalay's jade market is probably the market of most interest to the traveller visiting town. In Mandalay, the main buying and selling point is Mahar Aung Myay Market, more commonly known simply as the jade market. It's a fascinating spot, with vendors displaying everything from huge chunks of the green rock to tiny fragments, while in the afternoon session other precious stones and gems also make their appearance.

Mahagandayon doesn’t fascinate tourists by its majestic beauty but its peace.The monastery is also seen as one of Myanmar’s main centers for the education of young monks in the teachings of Buddha and a place where strict religious discipline is maintained.

Stop At: Shwenandaw Monastery, Shwenandaw Golden Palace, Mandalay Myanmar
The building was originally part of the royal palace at Amarapura, before it was moved to Mandalay, where it formed the northern section of the Hmannan (Glass Palace) and part of the king's royal apartments.
The monastery is known for its teak carvings of Buddhist myths, which adorn its walls and roofs. The monastery is built in the traditional Burmese architectural style. Shwenandaw Monastery is the single remaining major original structure of the original Royal Palace today.

Not only one of the most photogenic place in Mandalay but also World's largest book lies at the foor of Mandalay Hill. In the grounds of the pagoda are 729 stone-inscription caves, each containing a marble slab inscribed on both sides with a page of text from the Tripitaka, the entire Pali Canon of Theravada Buddhism.
