Stop At: Jemaa el-Fnaa, Marrakech Morocco
- Your Special Shopping Tour begins in front of Café de France in Jemaa el-Fna square, where you'll meet & greet your tour guide, before heading to the local Olives souk, where you're going to taste some signature olives of Morocco, which come in a rainbow of colors and flavors, from the greens with their creamy smooth texture to the reds tossed in parsley and cilantro..
After this appetizer, you'll enter an ancient workshop of the famous heelless leather slippers, locally called "balghas", which are part of the traditional dress, both for men and women, and not only in Morocco, but also in many parts of North Africa.
You'll also discover the leather souk, where you'll find wallets, belts, bags, shoes and other pieces that are handmade in the city, and that you can add to your wardrobe.. or just to your cool photos' album.
Then comes a cultural trip back in time to discover two points of interest: 1/ the Farnatchi, where you can uncover the process of heating the water in traditional public steam baths, called hammams, which dates back to Roman times; the Farnatchi is also where some locals still bring their dishes (especially the typical Tanjia) to be slowly cooked in a wood-fired oven; 2/ an age-old bakery where artisanal bread is still cooked the old fashioned way; Afterwards, you'll get inside one of the city's well-reputed herbal stores (aka "traditional pharmacies", where you can learn everything you want to know about herbs, spices and essential oils while having a Moroccan mint tea and some local pastry
Then, you'll head to a workshop of traditional woven Moroccan carpets and handmade Berber boucherouite (rugs), full of charm and proudly displayed. You'll fall in love with their authentic vintage texture and the stories behind their making. Plus, you'll also have another awesome colorful background for your photos!
Even if you have no intention purchasing a lamp, our Private Shopping Tour wouldn't be complete if we didn't include a final stop at a brass lamps & lanterns gallery. It’s worth visiting this glittering place, sells everything from small candleholders to to intricate multistory chandeliers appropriate for the entry hall of a sultan’s palace.
Marrakech ranks among the great shopping cities of the world, with local knowledge by your side, you're in good hands to have a splendid time in the establishments that are worth your time, without worrying to guess where to shop and where not to shop.
