About this activity
Day 1: – Marrakech - Ouarzazate: At 9 am; you will be transferred by 4x4WD to Ouarzazate, a journey of approximately 5 hours. You will travel through the collar of Tizi Tichka, the highest passage of Morocco and indeed of all North Africa, as you cross over the High Atlas Mountains amongst dramatic landscapes full of contrasts.
The route offers wonderful photo opportunities, like the UNESCO World Heritage Aït Benhaddou, which is built on the left side of a salty valley, on a hill. Its unique location and magical flavour has made this village the main shooting location for famous films such as Lawrence of Arabia and Jesus of Nazareth. Each door, each courtyard holds its architectural treasure, and terraces on top of buildings offer beautiful views of the village and the river below
. Diner and over night at KASBA DAR DAIF
Day 2: Ouarzazate and Skoura sightseeing tours: Morning visit of Ouarzazate, including the Kasbah of Glaoui, a hundred years old Kasbah located in the center of the town. You can visit the museum and enjoy the interesting mud architecture, and the amazing ceilings of this palace which belonged to the Glaoui family, main rulers of the region and the Atlas Mountains right until the dawn of Moroccan independence, back in 1956.
Continue to Skoura, a fertile oasis lined with immense palm groves that provide great views of the Atlas Mountains, alongside deserted landscapes. It is renowned for the cultivation of roses. The palm groves were laid out in the 12th century by the Almohad sultan Yacoub el-Mansour, and named after its original inhabitants, the Berbers of the Haskourene tribe. The most beautiful kasbahs in southern Morocco can be found here. Many of them are still partially inhabited. The Ben Morro Kasbah stands on the left of the road above Skoura. It was built in the 17th Century and after a complete restoration it has been converted into a guest house. The most imposing of the kasbahs in this area that you will tour is the 17th Century Amerhidil Kasbah. This fortified residence once belonged to the Glaoui. Today it is owned by the Sheikh of Amerhidil.
Lunch will be provided at the garden of one local family in Skoura.
Back to Ouarzazate. Diner and over night at KASBA DAR DAIF
Day 3: – Ouarzazate – Telouet - Marrakech: Breakfast and transfer back to Marrakech via Telouet. This road is one of ever changing and spectacular scenery that offers many excellent photo opportunities. Your driver will be more than happy to stop for you and will offer suggestions as to where the best photos can be taken.
You will visit the Glaoui Kasbah where you will be shown round by the caretaker. This ruined Kasbah was built in the early 20th century and was the Glaoui’s main palace.
Time for lunch and continue to Marrakech.
