Full-day tour of the Gorges du Verdon and Moustiers St Marie
This full-day excursion will begin with a drive for Moustiers Sainte Marie, via Gréoux les Bains, Allemagne-en-Provence and Riez. This is a very pretty drive and getting there is a highlight in itself.
On arrival, you will have a leisurely walk through the village, you will also have time to climb to the chapel high above the village. Moustiers Ste Marie sits at the base of a tall rocky cliff. Above Notre Dame de Beauvoir chapel sits perched higher on the cliff face behind the ruins of ancient walls. The village astride a rushing mountain stream divides it in two between a narrow rocky canyon. The tiny gorge, small waterfalls run down inside the village and medieval houses. The sound of the river and fountains through the village, give it the feel of an Alpine village. Moustiers is also famous for creating beautiful, faïence ceramics.
You will have time for a snack or an early lunch before heading for the full tour of the Gorges du Verdon. There are one of the must-see natural wonders of central Provence, and the deepest Gorges in France.
There will be lots of stops on the way for photos and enjoying the sublime views. You will see the breathtaking circular corniche that runs around the rim of the Gorges. You will experience spectacular scenery, tiny villages and deeply carved valleys dropping down to the river below. From Moustiers, you will go to Pont Sainte Croix up through the village of Aiguines and Trigance, Balcons de la Mescla then you will cross the canyon towards the village of Le Palud-Sur-Vernon on the cliff top route back to Moustiers. You will then return to Aix-en-Provence or Marseille.
