Marseille Shore Excursion: Private Marseille and Cassis Tour
1 day
Private
About this activity
When your cruise ship docks at the Marseille port, your guide will meet you to take you on your shore excursion: a private tour of Marseille and Cassis. Traveling by luxury minivan, head south along the scenic Route des Crêtes to the nearby seaside town of Cassis. Stop along the way to admire sweeping coastal views of the Gulf of Cassis from Cape Canaille, the spectacular headland that sits atop France’s highest sea cliffs.
Walk around Cassis' pretty harbor, lined with colorful houses typical of the fishing villages of Provence. You can choose to spend time exploring the village or taking a 45-minute sightseeing boat cruise (own expense). This cruise takes you along the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean to three of the area’s magnificent calanques – the striking limestone rock formations that comprise the so-called ‘fjords of the French Riviera’ along the coastline.
After your time in Cassis, make your way back to Marseille and finish your day with a sightseeing tour. Admire the Neo-Byzantine architecture of Marseille’s Notre-Dame de la Garde church, and enjoy incredible views across the sea of Château d’If – the fortress featured in Alexander Dumas’ novel The Count of Monte Cristo. You'll also see the 11th-century Abbey of St Victor before heading back to the cruise port to board your ship.
Worry-free Shore Excursion:We will ensure your timely return to the Marseille port for this activity. In the rare event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port-of-call. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

the tour thru Marseille was very good and we enjoyed driving thru Marseille. I didn't enjoy cassis at all and would not go back there.
Our tour guide Florence was incredible. Her knowledge of the region made this excursion a pleasure. Her command of the English language was incredible. Thanks you Florence from our entire family. Merci!!
Our driver William was at the pier on time to pick us up,he was very knowledgeable in the history of the area,he took us to the lookout were we took was fantastic photos of the city, after that we visited a church that was 600 years old and still operational, and untouched since being built. You start to wonder how they built these buildings in those days with minimal tools at their disposal. After that we went to the town of Cassis where we took a boat ride to the small fiords, also there were very high cliffs that surrounded us as we were cruising to the different passages, there was a small fee for the boat ride but it was worth it.After that we went to a restaurant for lunch by the water and we took our driver with us to share lunch. He was very good in giving us a good description of the area and its history. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would recommend this tour very highly. These tours are a bit more expensive but when you book from the ship you have 48 people to put up with so you get to see less, think about it,you pay more you get more.
This was an amazing excursion! Jeremy picked us up right at the cruise port and took us to see Notre Dame de la Garde, then to Cassis and Cap Canaille. Cassis is a charming town, we chose to eat lunch and wander the shops rather than take the boat ride through the Calanques. We also enjoyed the Abbey of St. Victor in Marseille. For 2 euros you can go down in the crypt below the abbey which is quite fascinating! Jeremy was very accommodating, giving us time to stop for a cafe au lait!
