About this activity
Set off from your centrally located Marseille hotel by luxury minivan, traveling south to the seaside town of Cassis -- only a short drive away. After passing along the scenic Corniche des Crêtes road, stop to admire sweeping coastal views of the Gulf of Cassis from Cape Canaille, the magnificent headland that sits atop France’s highest sea cliffs.
Head down to the town of Cassis and walk around its pretty harbor, lined with colorful houses that typify the fishing villages of Provence. Either spend time here exploring the village or alternatively, hop aboard a sightseeing boat (own expense) and visit three of the area’s magnificent calanques – the striking limestone rock formations that comprise the so-called ‘fjords of the French Riviera’ along the coastline.
After spending roughly 45 minutes on the water, head back to Marseille by minivan and finish your day with a relaxing sightseeing tour. Stop to admire the Neo-Byzantine architecture of Marseille’s Notre-Dame de la Garde church, and enjoy unforgettable views across the sea toward Château d’If – the fortress featured in Alexander Dumas’ novel The Count of Monte Cristo. Pass the 11th-century Abbey of St Victor and then end your tour back at your Marseille hotel in the evening.

Remy was our driver - EXCELLENT!!! Remy shisho us the highlights of Marseilles and gave us some history along the way. Then into Cassis - this place is not to me missed. Spectacular! Prompt and lots of time to explore. Ha gave us some restaurant recommendations and they were fantastic! Thanks for the great day Remy!
After picking us up at our hotel Tom showed us some of the famous sites in Marseilles and really enjoyed the back ground information to our host city. From Marseilles we drove the beautiful coast to the little fishing village of Cassis. We first stopped on the cliffs overlooking the village.....Tom explained the wonderful history of the area and then dropped us off in Cassis where we had a boat trip into the creeks of the limestone cliffs. Even though we ate at a very French restaurant with only french on the menu...it was no problem, the owner and waiters were very helpful and we had delicious food overlooking the small harbour.
This tour was absolutely fastastic! We were picked up at our hotel by our lovely guide Vanessa around 9 am. It was a private tour so my family and I were the only ones on the tour...It was perfect! We started off the day going to St. Nicholas Abbey and to the oldest bakery in Marseille. Then, our guide took to us to tthe Basilica of Notre-Dame of the Garde on top of the hill with spectacular view of all of Marseille and the nearby islands of Frioul and Chateau d'If. Then, we were off for a ride along the Corniche...Sea-side road on Marseille with beautiful ocean views as we made out way to Cassis. We made our way to Cap Canaille...The highest sea-side cliffs in Europe for amazing views. It was incredible! Then, off to Cassis, where we had roughly two and a half hours...We had an incredible lunch by the port and then hopped on a boat for a tour of the calanques. We did the 45 minute tour and visited 3of them...The calanques were one of the most beautful things I've ever seen...Don't skip this part. Then back to Marseille around 4 pm to enjoy the rest of the afternoon, sunset drinks and dinner. It was one of my favorite tours I've ever done! The only I wish for was more time...Cassis is an incredible place that merits more than 2 hours...But, if you want to see and do a lot with the comfort of a private tour, this is the way to go. Recommend it 100%!!
Our Guide, Marina, did an outstanding job of orienting us along the way to Cassis from Marseille. Our boat ride to 3 of the magnificent Clanaques (coves) was breathtaking. The view of the harbor from the top of the cliff was unbelievable. I'd do it again.
We got to Cassis, had a fantastic lunch, by recommendation by our guide. Went on the boat ride around the bay. And got to see the back way around the port back to the ship. She was remarkable. Thanks for a fantastic day!
It is a must. The views are breathtaking. Our guide was very good.
