We traveled to Phillip Island on a really comfortable coach and received interesting commentary on the journey we made a stop at an amazing wildlife park where I got to stroke a koala and feed wallabies and there were many other animals. We then made other stops to see the ocean and other beautiful, interesting spots. We then arrived at the Penguin parade, we choose the skybox experience which was so personal, we got an experienced ranger who told us so much amazing information and then we got to see the tiny penguins come out of the ocean, it was out of this world, they were so cute and i never saw anything like it ever. We got to go to different locations at the penguin parade seeing them from all over and up close. It is probably one of the best things i have ever done.
Took this tour with our 15 year old, departing from Cairns. A nice comfortable bus ride with a stop over at Mau Wildlife Sanctuary. We enjoyed the sanctuary, though we had already been to about five others on our trip. This sanctuary was smaller but well maintained and we really enjoyed feeding the kangaroos. The Sky box tour is the way to go! We had a personalized tour with a ranger to guide us and give us information. We were able to see the penguins with binoculars (provided), perched atop the hill overlooking the beach (basically sitting on top of the masses of people crowded on bleachers). The sky box tickets also got us into the underground and into the up close viewing platform. Highly recommend splurging on the sky box tickets! This was an excellent tour and very special to experience. We found the bus comfortable (with a bathroom!), the guide knowledgeable and friendly and the pick up/drop off to be smooth. We left Melbourne about 1pm and arrived back about 9pm.
This was a fantastic trip. The drive was quite a bit longer than I though, but absolutely worth it. The driver, Mark, was excellent, friendly, funny, and personable. The little wildlife park stop was great the only time I saw an albino grey kangaroo - actually two of them, but the sunset views from the cliffs on Phillip Island were breathtaking. And the little penguins are awesome!!
Great tour.
It was a very relaxing and restful tour and my family and I were so very excited to have seen the penguins upclose and see how their activities and movements were in the evening. Our experience were worth the cost of getting the Skybox Penguins because you are so close to the penguins and you can clearly see how they walk in line and in group and they were so amazing! Would recommend this tour to my friends and relatives!
If you do this tour I recommend the ranger tour it was well worth the price and you have a private viewing area near the beach and the explanations from the ranger highlighted the tour.
The tour provider was AAT King and our driver was Peter. He was excellent! Very knowledgeable and funny. And he was regularly making sure the tour group was well attended to and he asked each of us if we had seen penguins. My group was lucky enough to see them and they were so cute! I was very happy with the tour.
