Here, your guide will give you a brief explanation on the origins and importance of this quarter and the surroundings, and you’ll have time to walk around its streets and if you want to, have a light breakfast (at your expense). The Spanish used the area as their headquarters during the conquest of the Aztec Empire and made it the first capital of New Spain between 1521 and 1523. The village remained completely independent of Mexico City through the colonial period into the 19th century.
The borough of Coyoacan, along with its bohemian ambience and diversity of activities to do and places to visit, make its historic center a highly popular place to visit.
Duration: 1 hour 10 minutes
Stop At: Museo Frida Kahlo, Calle Londres 247 Col. Del Carmen, Mexico City 04100 Mexico

You will see some of her most important works of art and learn where she was born and also where she died. Although after marrying Diego Rivera she lived in different places of Mexico City, and abroad, she always went back to her old house in Coyoacan. Diego Rivera stated in his will that the home had to be donated, as well as all its contents, in order to turn it into a museum to honor Frida's life.
The museum contains a collection of artwork by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and other artists along with the couple’s Mexican folk art, pre-Hispanic artifacts, photographs, memorabilia, personal items, and more. The collection is displayed in the rooms of the house which remains much as it was in the 1950s. It is the most popular museum in Coyoacán and one of the most visited in Mexico City. Additional to the contents in the house, you can watch a short video to get a better idea of the painter's point of view on life. Its structure is divided by a stepped pyramid, a fountain, and a reflection pool.

With only a few days to discover Mexico City, this was the perfect introduction to this beautiful city! Our guide Antonio was superb as was our driver. MC is so massive that it is not possible to do more than scratch the surface in a couple of days. The stops were all "must-sees," the University, Coyoacan (delightful neighborhood!), the Blue home where Frieda and Diego Rivera lived (I learned so much - 2 geniuses who found each other and inspired magic) and the fun, crazy boat ride in Xochimilco were great and Antonio added wonderful insights! Throw in a gaggle of rooftop bars (not part of the tour, but they were happy to take you wherever you wanted!) and you a near perfect day! Highly recommended!
I was really looking forward to the Frida museum. Our tour guide told us we could not access the Frida museum because the line was too long. He offered to take us to a different museum which also had paintings of Diego Rivera. We did not make it to that museum either. The whole tour also felt a bit rushed. At every stop we were told to be back in XX minutes. Throughout the entire trip we had people trying to sell us something. The guide was overall nice and knowledgeable but the tour was not worth the hefty price.
