About this activity
The tour will start from the House of Castani, a baroque palace of the city center, where the Italian Fasci of Combat was founded in 1919. This was the first organization of Benito Mussolini, that will be transformed into the National Fascist Party. In 1937 Mussolini decided to restore and renovate it because of its role in the history of Fascism. The famous architect Piero Portaluppi, built a tower in the typical fascist style, although so many objections.
The second stop of this private tour will be the Mezzanotte Palace, the seat of the Italian stock exchange, and a very significant symbol of the fascist regime. The architect Paolo Mezzanotte began his design in 1927, and construction works were completed in 1932. Maurizio Cattelan, a challenging Italian artist, placed in the middle of the square a marble hand doing the Fascist salute, missing all of its fingers except the middle. You cannot miss it!
You will continue the walking tour in Duomo Square where, during the Fascist era, the dictator Mussolini decided to erect two twin buildings called Arengario Palace, now it hosts the Museum of Contemporary Art. The local government seat, in the Fascist period, was designed by Portaluppi, Muzio, Magistretti and Griffini from the 1936. The facade is decorated with fascist reliefs by Arturo Martini.
The last monument of the visit will be the Central Railway Station, the fascist major infrastructure inaugurated in 1931. Benito Mussolini wanted the station to represent the power of the Fascist regime with its massive and huge dimensions.
You will discover so much of the two decades that ended with Second World War!
