Upper Town hosts not only some of the landmark buildings of Minsk, like the Holy Spirit Cathedral and the monastery, City Town Hall, but also a lot of cafes and restaurantswith small terraces, which really gives a great spirit here.

Stop At: Archcathedral Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Svobody 9, Minsk 220030 Belarus

This is a delightful gothic style church located close to City Hall.
There are many high quality statues inside plus many good paintings.
This is a must see sight when you are in Minsk

Stop At: Liberty Square, Nezavisimosti Ave., Minsk Belarus

Liberty Square surrounds the Town Hall in the Upper Old Town, up the steps from Nimega metro station. There's a lot to see here: kids love climbing all over the statue of the governor's carriage outside the town hall itself - a good photo opportunity. Then there's the prefect with key statue and the playwright Marcinkievic and composer Moniusko on a bench on the small square behind the souvenir stalls which is a good, shaded place to watch the world go by. Most of it has been carefully reconstructed.

This includes a soviet mock roman style in which the sculptural forms have moved from the Gods to the people. The square does have the advantage of having a good location - just down the road from the GUM and just round the corner from upper town.
