About this activity
Your tour will start when a local guide will pick you up at your hotel and accompany you to Kolomenskoye. The tour will begin with a short walk in the Kolomenskoye toward the Ascension church – built back in 1532 to commemorate the birth of Ivan the Terrible. Interestingly, the Ascension church was constructed out of stone (very uncommon for Russia) and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Kolomenskoye Estate Tour will continue with a walk through park during which you will feel as if you are in a fairy tale. Eventually you will arrive to a Wooden Palace – to which many foreign guests in the 17th and 18th century referred to as the “8th Wonder of the World”. This was a favorite residence of such notable figures in Russian history as Tsar Alexis I, Elizabeth and Peter the Great.
The Palace was originally build in the 17th century and was reconstructed to its present form in 2008-2010. The tour guide will take you through the Palace that has been turned into a museum. As you wonder through the 24 rooms, you will see the way that the tsar and his family lived and enjoyed life. You will visit the restored dining room of Alexei I where he would entertain his guests and serve them the most exquisite food that the 17th century had to offer. As dining was a very important part of life of the tsar family, the restorers paid special attention to every detail of the interior decor and the food servings.
After enjoying the palace, the Kolomenskoye Tour will continue through the park to a local maker of Medovukha* – a traditional Slavic honey-based alcoholic beverage. Medovukha’s main ingredients include water, honey and yeast. As this is an old drink popular among the Russian nobility back in the 18th century – it will be a perfect way to end your day. At the end of the Kolomenskoye Estate Tour your guide will be happy to recommend you a place to eat or go shopping for souvenirs.
Please, dress comfortably.
*The Medovukha tasting is available only in summer months.

My guide Nadia picked me up at the hotel and we went by metro to the Estate. Nadia's knowledge, English and personality were tops for her job. We walked all over the Estate and into all the Museum rooms. A very interesting and excellent tour. Lesley - Sydney
