Sergiev Posad is a very unusual city. It is at the same time the spiritual center of the Russian state, a symbol of the Orthodox faith and a monument to the national history of the XIX - early XX centuries.

The traditional medieval history and topography of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra is well known, it roams from textbook to textbook and has managed to turn into an apocrypha.

On the other hand, this fascinating tale is full of white spots: the life of this settlement outside the church walls in the XVIII-XIX centuries, the ups and downs of the patriarchy in the last 50 years of the Russian Empire, the Soviet “Zagorsky” period, the wanderings of P.A. Florensky and VV Rozanova, and, finally, our modernity with you, in something more fascinating than the old antiquity.
