4 Days 3 Nights Honeymooning Around Chiang Rai
4 days
About this activity
Known as the gateway to the Golden Triangle, Chiang Rai was founded in 1262 by King Mengrai as the capital of the Lanna Kingdom. Wat Pra Keow in Chiang Rai was once home to the famed 'Emerald Buddha' now residing at Wat Pra Keow in the Grand Palace. Chiang Rai itself is situated in a valley and the mountains in the surrounding area are home to many people of the various ethnic minority hill tribe groups. But it is not only the famous sights, the stunning scenery and drenched in keeping traditions alive; it is the crisp mountain air and the gentle, cool and calm approach of its people that suits any honeymoon wish with a slice of authentic Thailand.
A recommended early arrival at Chiang Rai’s International Airport on day one will be the start of a romantically-tinted journey along the province’s most famous sites and intimate corners. We stipulate a morning arrival as in the afternoon, touring the landmarks of Chiang Rai by tricycle brings you up and close with what draws visitors to this town. Temples such as the Wat Phra Sing and the Wat Phra Keow pass the revue, each with its own story and carved its important role in the country’s history. A candle light Thai set dinner at your riverside resort ends the first day.
Hill tribes have favored the mountainous region of Chiang Rai for their fertile grounds and good living conditions among nature. Our morning is filled with visiting some of the ethnic minorities of the Akha and Yao, with generation roots dating back to China. A small settlement of the famous Long Neck Karen will also be included; originally from Myanmar and from an early age, Karen women add brass coils around their neck and limbs to give them an elongated look – hence the name Long Neck. Time to relax and enjoy each other’s company for an afternoon at our resort of choice: a selection of spa treatments are at your disposal for that moment of pure relaxation before a candlelight dinner brings another day to an end.
A mere boat ride away over the Sai River and you’re in Myanmar. Temples where monks follow the guiding rules to earn their saffron-clad robes and shopping for the latest trinkets at Thakhilek are a few of the highlights you can expect. It is the Golden Triangle that lures thousands of visitors annually for a panoramic view of seeing three countries convene at the confluence of rivers and with its notorious trading history of a bygone era embedded in its history, this morning completes yet another perfect, well-designed morning in the high north of Thailand. With lunch included en route and part of the afternoon at leisure, we will leave you completely free for the evening for dinner and perhaps a night out in the town.
With a private transfer from the resort to connect with your flight to your next destination after breakfast, this wonderful and joyful package for the both of you comes to an end on the fourth day.
