About this activity
Join home-chef Shilpa at her home in Matunga, central part of Mumbai. She will greet you with a cool glass of Jaljeera which is a drink made with home-made spices. Once you make yourself comfortable Shilpa will teach you how to drape the Sari, which is a traditional Indian attire. You can continue to enjoy the entire meal experience wearing the Sari if you wish. Following this you can head to the kitchen to make some Punjabi dishes like Dal Tadka (traditional lentil curry finished with a tempering of spices), Kadai Paneer (Cottage Cheese prepared in a semi spicy mild gravy) and also learn to make phulkas (wheat based Indian flatbreads) with Shilpa. After this, you can sit back relax and enjoy the scrumptious meal with Shilpa and her family.
On the menu there will be amazing Punjabi dishes like, Aloo Tikki (Crisp Aloo tikki stuffed with raw moong dal n spices served with homemade chutney), Dal Tadka, Kadhai Paneer and Aloo da Bharta (Potatoes cooked with simple yet flavourful spices). These will be accompanied with Steamed Rice, and Phulkas (Indian wheat based flatbread). For dessert you will be served with Gud ka Halwa which is a jaggery based dessert.
Shilpa can also arrange for a local Mehandi, also known as Henna or temporary tattoo (Mehendi is the Indian art done with colour which wears off within a week), artist to come and apply mehendi for an additional nominal charge (around USD 6).
This is not a professional cooking class but rather an opportunity to learn the tips and tricks of Indian cooking and experience authentic Indian food with a local.
