Medieval and macabre Munich: a tour through a grisly past

Meet your guide in the historic heart of old Munich - Marienplatz. For morning tours, ideally at 9 - 9.30am, while for afternoon tours, 1 - 1.30pm is suggested. (Other times may be possible. Consult with your guide at the time of booking)

This walking tour is thematic: your guide will cover topics such as ancient burial rites, the Black Death, trade and commerce, medieval defences, the impact of the 30 Years' War, religious bigotry: the fates of Jews and Lutherans. In addition, learn about the murders committed by a paranoid Duke with a short fuse and the infamous witch trials of the early 17th century.

The tour is fully interactive, so expect to handle artefacts like original Medieval coins and pottery and perhaps some armour and weapons as well.

We tend not to watch the clock like a hawk: if, along the way you want to take a break for a coffee or maybe a quick glass of something, we can do this no problem.
