Jebel Akhdar, the Green Mountain
On the way to Jebel Akhdar, visit Nizwa with its souk and fort. The next stop is the village oasis of Birkat al Mouz (UNESCO World Heritage). Drive up to Jebel Akhdar and its Saiq Plateau with the Diana Point to marvel the extraordinary vista (from here you have a wonderful view over the mountain range and the plain below). The name derives from the fact that the area is one of the most fertile in the country. In the plantations grow apricots, pomegranates, peaches, grapes, almonds, walnuts and of course the roses that are the base of the popular Omani rose water. Reach Wadi Bani Habib with the deserted ruined mud villages.
