The factory is located in what used to be part of the Karen Blixen Estate (of the Academy Award winning film "Out of Africa" fame.) They have further applied our knowledge of ceramics and the artistic flair that has made our necklaces so attractive, in the design and production of our own unique range of pottery-ware, which reflects the culture and wildlife of Kenya. Each piece is hand made and hand painted in rich colors and our range is extensive from individual collector pieces to dinnerware. Then continue on to visit the Matbronze which is situated in the historical suburb of Karen, at the foot of the Ngong Hills. The foundry with attached gallery displays over six hundred bronzes - from double life size Crowned Cranes to the daintiest of Sunbirds, from an eight foot Crocodile to Cuff links for men.Recently Matbronze opened a coffee bar and cafe you can now enjoy the art, and relax with refreshments in the gardens. The next destination is the Bomas of Kenya where different aspects of Kenyan culture are displayed including living styles, crafts, music and dancing. I had used Viator for a 10 day trip to Italy and I have absolutely no complaints, other than my mind still thinks Im 20yrs old and my body says are you crazy? So I booked this last minute tour and with few expectations, I was blown away by the day. James our driver is a wonderful guy and we did everything and more. Fortunately we had a very small group for most of the day 2 and this cultural center is very interesting and totally worth the trip.
DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR!!!! I was scheduled for December 26 and was picked up on time. I was taken to Kazuri Beads but unable to see anything but the gift shop because they were off for the holiday. Same with MatBronze. When we arrived at the Bomas, it was CLOSED. The tour company should have known in advance that they were closed due to holiday scheduling. The next stop was supposed to be the Maasai market. I was taken to the Galleria and told it was the Maasai market. I questioned it and the guide told me that the Maasai move around so their shops were at the Galleria that day. UNTRUE!!!! The Maasai shops were actually booths where people sell Maasai items in a mall. Upon arrival at my hotel, I found out the truth, which I suspected but the guide insisted. The true Maasai market is flea market style and does move locations daily. I requested a 50 refund since the company honored part of my tour. However, the company denied that request saying that it wasnt their fault the Bomas was closed and they asserted that I WAS taken to the Maasai market. AGAIN, they should have known the Bomas was closed being tour professionals and I was taken to a mall with Maasai items. Im a seasoned traveler and have had great tours and service through Viator until now. Please heed my warning and steer clear of this tour as you may be hoodwinked and then denied a refund you so deserve because of this shady tour provider.
