Stop At: Lake Pontchartrain, New Orleans, LA
From New Orleans, take a short drive to Slidell and you'll reach Lake Pontchartrain and the Honey Island Swamp, a wildlife preserve that is one of the last protected wetlands in Louisiana.
Your guide welcomes you aboard a custom-made 22-passenger flat-bottom boat. The smaller sized, quiet boat can fit through narrow passages in the swamp foliage so that you see more and get closer to wildlife. It’s the ideal way to take in the lush environment of Cajun country.
As your guide explains the history of Louisiana’s wetlands and swamp ecosystem, be on the lookout for resident wildlife including alligators, raccoons, owls, wild boar, nutria, snakes, turtles, black bears, bald eagles and many other bird species. Get a close look at some wild gators as your guide shares facts about the toothy beasts, who can weigh up to 1,000 pounds (453 kg). Their ancestors once roamed the earth with the dinosaurs and scientists estimate that they have existed for more than 150 million years.
Glide safely through the fertile swamplands, learning about Cajun culture and how local people have utilized the swamp for food, homes, and medicine from your guide. You even see an authentic Cajun village that is only accessible by boat. Gain an understanding of why the wetlands are slowly disappearing and about the efforts being made to preserve Louisiana's natural treasures.
After a fascinating 2-hour boat tour on Honey Island Swamp, your guide returns you to shore. You can then make your own way to your next destination.

The tour was fantastic. It mixed between fast and slow speed. The boat captain is knowledgeable and fun. Maybe we were not that lucky. We encountered only small alligators. However, we could learn so much about swamp life during the tour. Children are required to wear life vests and this could be very hot due to high humidity. It will be better if the boat equips a few ring buoys.
Captain Emmett was funny and knowledgeable. During the tour, we encountered not only alligators but also raccoons and pigs. We learned a lot about ecosystems at the swamp.
The experience overall was very good it’s very beautiful on pearl river not quite what I had envisioned for a swamp tour. We had nice ride. Worth the trip
Never a dull moment! Ask about Oreo, the swamp pig. Stumpy too! Jacob, our guide was very knowledgeable, insightful, and he made the tour extremely interesting. I heard and learned so much about not just the swamp, but the wetlands areas of Louisiana from Jacob! He and the other tour guides on the other boats talked and teased each other was the boats past each other indicating these guys really like their job and sharing their swamp habitat knowledge. Very insightful and picturesque tour! Wild life in abundance! I took excellent photos!
Great experience! Chris was an excellent tour guide! Very funny and extremely knowledgable of the swamp. Saw several gators, birds, coons and even 5 feral hogs!!The entire family had a blast! Would highly recommend this tour!!
Other than they did not start on time and we had to wait for other people that were 15 mins late the tour was good. The guide provided us with the ability to see many different creatures and vegetation in the swamp. It is good of them to help keep the gator with the broken jaw alive by keeping him fed. The guide was very knowledgeable and answered every question our group asked.
Capt Ron was fun and informative. Highly recommend this tour. The alligators were not out during our visit but Capt Ron made it very captivating with the boars, raccoons and snakes. Also shared the legacy of the old alligator, Brunist.
Gary was our tour guide and he did a great job. Entertaining and informative. Would definitely recommend.
I suggested this after seeing the reviews and so glad I did! Me and my girlfriends had an amazing time and would recommend his to anyone !! Staff was great and everything was well organized!
The boat captain was excellent. He really took his time to point out interesting sites and wild life. He ensure we got good pictures. We loved it!
