About this activity
Upon meeting at noon (Sun. through Fri.) in front of the Guggenheim Museum (at 88th and 5th Avenue), I'll point out the filming locations of movies such as “Arthur,” "The International," "Cactus Flower," "Marathon Man," "Working Girl," and "The Anderson Tapes," as well as many more movies filmed in this amazing neighborhood.
"84 Charing Cross Road," "Six Degrees of Separation," "The House on 92nd Street," "Ransom," and "When Harry Met Sally" are just a few more movie locations we'll visit.
I'll describe the scenes filmed at each spot we come across while strolling through Carnegie Hill along 5th Avenue, Madison Avenue, and Park Avenue. We'll see the homes of such celebrities and literary figures as Ralph Lauren, Faye Dunaway, Anthony Bordain, Woody Allen, Katie Couric, Stockard Channing, J.D. Salinger, Truman Capote, Marlene Dietrich, Robert Redford, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Mike Nichols.
You'll be knocked out by the beautiful stained glass murals in The Church of Heavenly Rest where Keanu Reeves meets Charlize Theron in "The Devil's Advocate." We will even catch a glimpse of a variety of waterbirds inhabiting the enormous Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir in Central Park!
There's always a chance we'll see a celebrity along the way. I've seen Woody Allen, Harry Belafonte, Abel Ferrara, Katie Couric, Lucas Hedges, Helen Mirren, Sigourney Weaver, and character actor Celia Weston in the neighborhood.
I'll also tell you about the impressive architecture of the historic neighborhood. We get a peak at St. Thomas More church where Andy Warhol and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis were parishioners at the same time.
Bring an umbrella if it's rainy. There is one restroom break on the tour, and one ATM location if you need to get some cash.
The walking tour concludes in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, so it's a perfect opportunity for you to gaze upon impressive works of art from all over the world after the tour is over.
