About this activity
Visit: Brooklyn Children's Museum, 145 Brooklyn Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11213-1900
Brooklyn Children's Museum promotes a family friendly environment where you'll access exhibits which offer boundless opportunities for sensory play and exploration that encourage children’s social, emotional and physical development. Museum offers three floors of interactive exhibits and hands-on cultural and science programs for ages 6 months to 8 years.
Sensory Room
Inclusive interactive exhibit and program space developed in 2014, guided by the specific needs of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Modular furniture elements enable Educators to set up the space differently each time and modify the activities based on the visitors who are present. Activities range from low to high impact and can include quiet reading and materials exploration to medium impact music-making to high impact physical movement and challenges.
ColorLab
ColorLab is Brooklyn Children’s Museum’s family art-making space where artists of all ages can explore, make, and celebrate art! We value discovery, artistic process, freedom of expression, and creative collaboration with others. ColorLab’s rotating programs feature the work and artistic processes of African American, Afro-Caribbean, and African contemporary artists. Each visit to ColorLab offers new ways to experiment with artistic processes and new ideas to explore, as well as the exploration of the Museum’s collection using all of the senses. Hands-on programs are supported by BCM’s teaching artists and educators.
World Brooklyn
Children play in kid-sized shops based on the real ones you find in neighborhoods across Brooklyn. In these environments, kids take on the roles of shopkeeper, baker, grocer, shopper, designer, performer, and builder as they gain an understanding and appreciation of the cooperative roles that enable communities to thrive. This exhibit is designed to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of the world cultures found in Brooklyn.
Totally Tots
This pint-sized paradise is designed for our youngest visitors, featuring nine different sensory play areas including water, sand, music, dress up, blocks, and more. Totally Tots is for children ages zero to 6.
Collections Central
This exhibit features a rotating selection from the museum’s collection of 29,000 historic cultural objects and scientific specimen – from lunch boxes to minerals, masks and trolleys!
Neighborhood Nature
Examine the many ecologies found in your own Brooklyn backyard. This exhibit introduces children to life sciences through hands-on play in the community cork garden, close looking and listening in the Museum’s diorama habitats, lounging at the “beach” and through exploring the intersection of the natural and human worlds.
