About this activity
We'll begin at 158 Hicks Street, home to Brooklyn's original suffrage pioneer. On Montague Street, we'll find out about how one of the nation's earliest female lawyers pioneered "Law Lectures for Women." Along the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, we'll see how some of New York's most iconic monuments, including the Statue of Liberty, are really monuments to the women's movement. Then, we'll turn onto Pierrepont Street, a veritable headquarters of suffrage ferment, where women fought for political as well as professional rights. Finally, we'll end at the Old Bridge Street Church, a stop on the underground railroad, and a monument to freedom and equality of all kinds.
