Once a rough-and-tumble neighborhood filled with poor Irish-Americans, Hell’s Kitchen today is a safe area, its streets flanked by ethnic eateries. Stop by restaurants to munch on baba ghanoush, bourekas and the pièce de résistance: a doughnut and ice cream sandwich with lots of toppings. Sample enough food on this portion of the tour to make a full lunch.

Next, walk off those calories by following your guide to Central Park. The greatest urban park in the world holds many intriguing secrets. Can you guess what Central Park’s real estate value is? Can you guess how long it took to build Central Park? Where does the only straight path in the park lead? These are some of the questions that will be answered as you explore the park.

Go to parts of the park many people don’t know about, including a spot that feels as if you’re miles and miles from the urban jungle that is New York City. Expect to walk about 3 miles (5 km) in all, at a comfortable pace; Hell’s Kitchen is flat, and Central Park is a little hilly. The tour ends at Central Park, leaving you free to continue to explore the city on your own.
