About this activity
Make the most of your time in port in Ocho Rios by enjoying Jamaica’s spectacular outdoors. A shore excursion to the Green Grotto Caves will allow you to do just that. You'll be picked up at the port upon disembarking your cruise ship and your excursion can begin!
A fascinating piece of both Jamaican nature and history, the Green Grotto Caves are near Discovery Bay. As you explore the caves, you’ll see stalagmites, stalactites and a subterranean lake. Hear stories of slaves who hid in the caves, and marvel at the limestone formations. As a route of escape for the Spaniards during the English invasion in the 1600s and as a place to hide rum barrels during WWII, the history of Green Grotto Caves is rich.
This fantastic Ocho Rios shore excursion gives you the chance to see some of the best of Jamaica during the short time that you are in port.

Really enjoyed this .... a little out of the way, but our driver did a wonderful job showing us the area prior to getting to the cave. Cave was dark, but enough light to navigate okay. Very interesting. This is a fun excursion.
Very interesting tour. Guide was awesome telling all the history and stories of the caves.
We were meet at the gate of the ship port by our tour driver right after the ship was in dock. Our driver was very nice and courtious. The drive to the Caves took awhile and he told us about the area and answered any questions we asked on the way to and back from the Caves. The tour of the Caves themselves was about an hour with a lot of walking and stairs. The day we went it was quite comfortable in the caves. All in all it was very enjoyable. We were taken back to the cruise ship afterwards.
We had private transportation to and from the ship and our guide even took us a ways off the track to show us a scene of beauty.
This tour was exactly as described, and more fun and entertaining than expected because of our guide "Johnson" who was a gentleman in every way and focused on making sure we had a good trip. The cave was well laid out to accomodate several groups of tourists-good lighting, handrails where possible, and seating at scattered locations. The cave guide enjoyed relating the history and made sure everyone was safe without being overbearing. Highly recommend if you've been to Jamaica before and have a few hours to spend seeing a beautiful part of the island.
